TCHTA Members Partner with the Turks & Caicos Reef Fund to Protect our Oceans

The famed Smith’s Reef Snorkel Trail has reopened thanks to the rehabilitative work funded by the Sandals Foundation in partnership with the Turks and Caicos Reef Fund.

The 20 year old shore trail received much-needed upgrades which were supported by a donation from the Sandals Foundation, used to refurbish existing snorkel trail markers, install beach signage and marker buoys, introduce swim zone lines, and erect signage with guidelines for reef etiquette.

Joining the effort to protect our oceanic resources is COMO Parrot Cay. The private resort is a proud sponsor of the first artificial reef at the cay which has seen rebar structures installed to form the foundation for a staghorn coral reef. The staghorn was one of the primary reef-building corals in the Caribbean region before they were virtually decimated in the 1980s.
