Culinary Activities Take Over Summer 2017
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands: Sunday, July 30, 2017 – From Culinary Summer Camps to an inaugural Cocktail
Week, inspiring Chefs as well as veteran Mixologists were given the opportunity to showcase their talent during the
month of July.
Summer served as the perfect time for the inspiring Chefs when TCI Hospitality Adventure and TCHTA hosted the annual
Culinary Camp and Junior Lit’l Chefs Camp for participants age 12 - 17. Kids who simply either have a passion for
preparing food or want to pursue a career in Culinary Arts, were hosted and mentored while attending the Camps at
various TCHTA hotel members including Seven Stars Resort, Villa del Mar, Beaches TCI and Alamandra Villas – Silly
Creak. Each Camp culminated with the anticipated Black Box competitions, allowing the kids to showcase their skills by
creating various courses using items from mystery baskets.
TCHTA’s Executive Director Stacy Cox who accompanied the kids during the week, observing their enthusiasm and desire
to learn noted, “Both Camps allow these budding Chefs to sharpen their culinary skills while at the same time be
mentored by some of the destination’s top Chefs, who graciously gave of their time so that the students can hone their
Culinary skills. Our Culinary Camp is instrumental in the development of younger Chefs, most of who have attended and
are now part of the Culinary teams at our member hotels. Junior Chefs like Martin Wilkiens, Robinangel Simmons, Korea
Rolle, Kentisha Hall and Christin Greene and bartender Jean Tissaint, who have gone through the programme have
actually joined us as part of our Team TCI contingent for the annual Taste of the Caribbean competition. Inga Stubbs
and Kevin Missick, winners of this year’s Black Box competitions will also be joining us in Miami for the 2018 Taste of the
Caribbean competition.”
Cox added, “It is evident that the Culinary Camp prepares the participants for future competition and this year is no
different, with former campers Christin Greene and Kentisha Hall representing Turks and Caicos at the upcoming Junior
Duelling Chefs competition in Barbados.”
The inaugural Cocktail Week, the brainchild of Wine Cellar took place from July 27 – 30 and included a Cocktail Cook off
and Bartender Competition sponsored by TCHTA and IGA. Like Inga and Kevin, the winner of the Bartender Competition
Aristotle Florida from Amanyara will join the team at next year’s Taste of the Caribbean in Miami.
Sponsors for both Culinary Camps, Cocktail Week as well as the upcoming Junior Duelling Chefs competition include
Seven Stars Resort, Villa del Mar, Beaches TCI, Alamandra Villas – Silly Creak, Grace Bay Club, Amanyara, The Palms,
Parrot Cay Resort, The Wine Cellar, The Shore Club, Ministry of Culture, TCHTA and IGA.
